Follicular dysplasias are a group of syndromes that often results in abnormal hair loss and changes in coat quality. Hair loss starts at an early age and progresses very slowly. The changes are consistent in the different breeds affected, suggesting a genetic connection. Black Hair Follicular Dysplasia is a rare inherited disorder that is seen in mixed-breed and purebred dogs. Hair loss occurs at a very early age in black areas on black or black and white dogs.
DNA Test The f allele is known to be responsible for black hair follicular dysplasias. This DNA test provides reliable identification of dogs that carry the f allele. By doing this test a breeder is able to control the f allele frequency in Large Munsterlander thus preventing the production of puppies affected with Black Hair Follicular Dysplasia. This DNA test accurately and specifically identifies normal, carriers (heterozygous) and affected dogs. |
