C128-Canine Coat and Nose Color Test
Japanese Chin |
|
DNA TEST |
Japanese Chin occur in several colors: black and white, tricolor, sable and white, red/yellow and white, lemon and white, and in some countries brown and white. Several genes and the interaction thereof contribute to these colors. Since all Chin have white markings, their other color will be discussed in the text and table below, without always mentioning and white . The gene that controls the black (or brown) coat color of Japanese Chin is K and the allele responsible is KB. Chin that are either tricolor or sable do not have a KB, but are ky/ky. Red/yellow, or its paler cousin yellow, could be any genotype at the K locus since they are e/e and this masks the effects of K. The gene causing the difference in shade in red/yellow and yellow Chin is not yet known. Tricolor Japanese Chin are at/at at the agouti locus and sable Chin have at least one ay allele. Japanese Chin in most countries are not brown. If pertinent, they could be tested for the b alleles at additional charge of $20.00. |
